What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology, or muscle testing, is a safe, gentle, non-invasive therapy that aims to identify the stressors that cause our body to go out of balance. It aims to change the perception of that 'stress' so that it ceases to have a negative effect on us.

It does this by going to the only true source that has the answers - the individual body itself. We all react differently to stresors, one person might feel sick, another irritated, another may just tense up. However, EVERYONE shows a change in muscle response under stress, because, under stress our muscles 'weaken', or more precisely, lose their integrity. Kinesiologists use this phenomenon to establish both the priority issue to deal with, its root cause, and the most appropriate way to resolve it. Since we are all different, the answers will be too, which goes some way to explaining why one therapy will benefit one person but not necessarily another with the same problem.

What is EFT?

EFT (often called 'tapping'), actually has its roots in Kinesiology. Developed by Gary Craig to give the layman a simple but effective tool to help himself, EFT has been likened to acupuncture without the needles. Clients can use it effectively to help themselves, so that they only need to see a therapist when they are 'stuck', reducing costly therapy to a minimum.

Over the last 2-3 years, EFT has been increasingly in the media due to its unprecedented success. You regularly see Paul McKenna using it on TV, Richard and Judy have featured it and more recently Stephen Gately was seen on TV using it to improve his skating performance. There have also been many articles in the press.

EFT is so called because it gives you freedom from the negative emotions preventing you from performing to your full capacity and maintaining full health. By tapping meridian points whilst focusing on a particular problem, we can clear the energy blockages in the meridians that are causing the problem, so that it simply dissolves away, giving rapid, usually permanent relief, and often working where other methods have failed. Difficult to believe, but true!

The client below was immobilised by her problem and getting nowhere fast. She had one session with me, and was able to do the rest by herself.

"Dear Amanda,
May I say thank you for all your help as I can now use the techniques for other 'problems' I encounter. I found EFT a new technique which I approached with some sceptism as I didn't fully understand how it works, and still don't. Things in life were getting in me down. I had a few sessions with my reflexologist who is training, and then had a session with you. I have been able to work through a major issue in my life and carry on. There are things which are still an issue but I know how to deal with them using EFT and it's all coming together for me. I would recommend it to others who are struggling. All the Best,"

Advantages of Kinesiology & EFT

  • Both therapies are suitable for almost any problem
  • Both can be used surrogately - i.e. you can treat someone by means of someone else. This is especially useful when dealing with children and animals. It means they can be treated without adding further stress to their lives, and in the case of children, without adding to their problems the idea that they are not 'normal'. I have found this method especially useful when trying to help children from difficult backgrounds with behavioural problems.
  • Both integrate well with other therapies - this means I am able to take full advantage of all the therapies I practise.
  • EFT is easily learnt and used by the client, giving them more freedom and control over their healing process, and cutting costly therapy to a minimum.
  • EFT can be done successfully in group sessions reducing cost for the client.
  • EFT can be done over the phone. This is ideal for agoraphobics and others unable to leave the house, or who find travelling difficult.
  • Kinesiology asks the client's body what is going on, and receives the answer back via the muscles, for that one individual person. This is really important as we are all different. Everyone's answers to the same questions will be different, so that the treatment that works for one person may not help another.
